Sanskrit is the mother tongue of yoga. Many of its words carry layers of meaning that are often lost in translation. For practitioners and teachers alike, understanding even the basics of Sanskrit can open a deeper doorway into yoga and bhakti traditions.
This course is designed to make Sanskrit approachable. Together with Hari Śakti and Hare Kṛṣṇa Dās – a lifelong practitioner, monk of two decades and a teacher of bhakti and Vedic wisdom – you will be guided step by step into the language of yoga and sacred sound.
What You’ll Learn
- Key yoga vocabulary – common terms in āsana, prāṇāyāma, and yoga practice.
- Bhakti concepts – the essential words of devotion and their meaning.
- Correct pronunciation – learn how to pronounce Sanskrit sounds clearly and confidently.
- Mantra practice – proper recitation of foundational mantras and their significance.
- Textual language – basic terms from the Bhagavad Gītā, Yoga Sūtras, and Haṭha Yoga Pradīpikā.
- Practical application – how yoga teachers can integrate Sanskrit safely and meaningfully into their classes.
- Cultural context – why pronunciation matters and how language preserves the tradition.
